When I was a kid there were two pictures that really caught my imagination. One was Rollie Free riding a Vincent Black Shadow at 150mph wearing a swimsuit. The other was John Cobb setting the record at Brooklands, that still stands to this day, at about 144mph, with all four wheels off the ground in the Napier-Railton.
The Napier was one of those vehicles that, as a kid, I didn’t know still existed. For many years I thought I would never see it, so to actually get a chance to drive it at Goodwood for the Festival of Speed was truly an amazing experience.
