Pity the XM: it had so much to live up to, following on from the DS and CX, and in an age of PSA rationality, infusing it with the individuality of its forebears was always going to be challenging. Yet, the fluid-suspended computer controlled XM managed that arduous task with consideration aplomb. Firmer than Citroëns of old, the XM was still a magic carpet compared with executive class rivals. A wide range of normally aspirated and turbo petrols and diesels were offered during its ten-year life, but the XM was most appealing with a V6 under its pointy snout.
