Riding on the famous Citroen hydro-pneumatic suspension and powered, through the front wheels by a Maserati V6 of 2670cc, the SM represents probably the finest trans-continental express of its era. Indeed, with a power output of 170bhp and a class leading drag coefficient enabling a top speed of 140mph, this was the fastest front wheel drive car ever at that time.
In addition to self-levelling suspension, other market leading features included power-assisted all-round disk brakes, self-centring steering, as well as steered headlamps.
This Citröen SM was delivered new in Liechtenstein to Mr Jasef Masogg and first registered on 2nd July 1971. Subsequently the car was sold to Mr Philippe Orville of Lausanne and remained in his ownership until 1994. It was exported from Switzerland in 2013. Beautifully presented, the astonishing condition reflects careful ownership and sparing use. The car is 'on the button' and ready to drive.
A fascinating file of documentation accompanies the car and includes service booklet in the name of Jasef Masogg, as well as invoices for work carried out. Highly regarded today, these technically advanced and functionally beautiful cars remain highly sought after.
Truly exceptional examples such as this very rarely come to the market and the first real afficianado of the model to view it will surely buy it immediately. Early viewing is strongly recommended!
