Mad Men Cadillac Coupe DeVille tops nearly $50,000 at auction
Don Draper’s 1965 Cadillac Coupe DeVille has sold for $48,980 at an online auction. The 340bhp Cadillac sold for nearly four-times the average $13,000 price, according to classic car experts Hagerty’s.
The fee paid by the anonymous buyer was $39,500, with the remaining 24% commissioned to Screenbid.com, the auction house who hosted the sale.
While confirming that the car was indeed that used in Mad Men, little detail was given regarding the condition of the car, with no mileage or running condition offered prior to sale.
The Cadillac was used to shoot the final scenes of the popular TV drama, in which Don Draper, portrayed by Jon Hamm, stars as an ex-Creative Director and founder of an advertising agency faced with the balancing act of founding a new business and satisfying his family life.
Measuring in at 224 inches long and nearly 80 inches wide, the car's V8 and three-speed automatic transmission have their work cut out propelling the Detroit coupe.
