A push upmarket for BMW, the 850i was a true measure of the company’s confidence by the late ‘80s. Powered by BMW’s first V12 engine, it was quick and effortless, and its sleek styling was a big departure from its last coupé, the 6-Series. However, sales were slow during the recession of the early ‘90s so BMW introduced lower-priced V8 versions under the CSi banner. However, when production ended, the company chose not to replace the 8-Series, deciding instead to abandon that sector of the market.
