Bentley has revealed images and specs for the new Bentayga, the world’s fastest SUV
The world’s fastest SUV. That’s how Bentley is positioning its new Bentayga, thanks to a power output of 600bhp and a claimed top speed of 187mph. The car will be revealed in full at the Frankfurt motor show next week.
Featuring a heavily revised version of Bentley’s twin-turbo 6.0-litre W12 engine, it’s the torque figure of 663lb ft that really helps the 2347kg off-roader to move. Bentley also claims a 0-62mph time of 4.0secs – which is just enough to surpass the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S.
Featuring ZF’s most recent eight-speed transmission, the Bentayga is not only fast but is also extremely refined. When combined with the latest cylinder deactivation technology developed with Volkswagen (and also used on big Audi models), the car promises 22mpg efficiency and CO2 emissions of 292g/km.
Sophisticated multi-link front and rear suspension will combine various levels of comfort, or stability, depending which of the car’s four dynamic modes you are using. The company’s Dynamic Ride system is also featured as standard, will actively counteracts body roll.
With a metal sump guard, it’s clear that Bentley made some effort to toughen the Bentayga up for some moderate off road duties. If you plan on using the luxury off roader for regular farm duties, then there’s an optional off road package that adds Snow, Gravel, Mud and Sand driving modes.
As you would expect, Bentley has gone all-out with the interior tech and specification, moving it above the rest of the company’s current offerings. A head-up display, night vision camera, brand new infotainment system are among the most impressive toys, along with the usual barrage of electronic systems.
Prices have not yet been revealed, but we should know more about the car following its official reveal at the Frankfurt motor show next week.
