This classic Mini City E with the 998cc engine was first registered 1st September 1983 and supplied by Mann Egerton & Co. Ltd Castle Street, Worcester WR1 3AW to a lady from the village of Hallow, Worcester. She had ownership for the first 16 years prior to selling to a gentleman from Melbourne Street, Worcester who owned the car for a further 13 years. The third owner was a gentleman from Bransford, Worcester who had the Mini for 2 years and 9 months. So, a local Worcester car for over 31 years. In November 2014, me and my 15-year-old son had been watching this Mini City E on an eBay auction and became the highest bidder and won the auction with seconds to go. I contacted the owner and made arrangement to collect the Mini 2 days later. Worcester to Chorley, Lancashire. Do I collect via transporter or drive the 133 miles and 3 hrs 40 minutes back up the M5/M6. My decision was made, train journey to Worcester on the 6th November 2014. I was met at the Worcester train station by the owner, took a 15-minute drive and there she was; a lovely looking Mini City E finished in Cinnabar Red. Still a little apprehensive about my journey home in this 31-year-old Mini however; but I was soon put at ease after a lengthy chat with the owner whilst having a cup of tea and a sandwich before my journey home began. Just as the owner said, ''It pulls like a train''. My journey began and was very memorable, I have never had as many smiles, thumbs up, horns beeping and headlights flashing whilst making my way back home. We garaged the Mini until the spring 2015 then it was taken to Greenwoods Garage in Eccleston, Chorley for a little TLC. A little welding to the driver's side floor and sill plus both inner rear wheel arches. Garaged again until November 2016 and in this time my son has had the seats re-upholstered in 'Black Houndstooth', new black carpets, new door cards and dash liner, two new door seals plus boot seal. Mechanically he had the following work carried out: a complete exhaust assembly fitted with exhaust clamp and mounting along with 4 new cross ply tyres, spark plugs, oil, oil filter, air filter and battery. All of the above work had been carried in readiness for my son to start learning to drive. This is when we hit a 'brick wall', not literally of course, the insurance companies would not insure him. I mean they would insure him as a leaner driver but not as a 17-year-old new driver when he passed his test! We couldn't even get him classi
