1954-1961 AUSTIN Metropolitan specifications

1954-1961 AUSTIN Metropolitan specifications Classic and Performance Car

Never actually badged an Austin, the Metropolitan was originally made solely for Nash in America, who wanted a small car but had no experience of building one. Which explains the bumper car-like American styling. On sale here from 1957 the car had by then been given the 1489cc B-series in place of the original 1200. One strange quirk is the three-speed gearbox, which is actually an A50 four-speed with the slot for first blanked off. Both hardtop and convertible versions were made and surviving numbers of each are about equal in the UK.
