Latest Audi S4 to enjoy V6 engine and eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Audi has taken the covers off the all-new A4 model at the Frankfurt motor show, headlined by the high performance S4 model. The car is expected to go on sale next year
Powered by an all-new 3.0-litre twin-turbo TFSI engine, power output is up to 349bhp, while efficiency is also significantly improved. Audi claims fuel consumption o f38mpg and CO2 emissions of 170g/km.
Off the mark, the S4 will reach 62mph in just 4.7secs, however top speed is electronically limited 155mph. As with the rest of the A4 range, the overall weight has been brought down by around 55kg over its predecessor.
As with all Audis of note, the S4 enjoys the benefits of Quattro four-wheel drive system, with the much better centre sport differential remaining an option. In normal driving mode around 60 per cent of torque is sent to the rear, although as much as 85 per cent can be fed to the rear in the most extreme conditions.
Audi has also added an extra gear to the latest S4, with a new eight-speed automatic tiptronic gearbox bolted in to the car. The gearbox mapping, steering, weight, differential settings and damper settings can be controlled via the Drive Select System.
With regards to styling alterations, Audi has done as it often does with S-series cars, adding a lip rear spoiler, rear diffusers, matt grey-finished wing mirrors and a singing quartet of tailpipes.
Prices are yet to be officially announced, however the S4 is likely to cost around 10 per cent more than the outgoing car, which was listed at £39,610.
