After 20 years of the V8 saloon, even Aston was forced to concede that it was time for a change – the Virage, the final blast of the original V8 concept. A bold and imposing new body was designed by Royal College of Art tutors John Hefferman and Ken Greenley, and slotted over the existing V8 chassis. Despite the old-fashioned underpinnings, the car still looked sufficiently sleek and modern to revitalise Aston Martin for the 1990s. From 1992, Aston Martin introduced a service to convert the Virage engine to a 500bhp 6.3-litre.
