When launched, the GTA Turbo became France’s fastest-ever production car. With a power output of nearly 200bhp from its 2.5-litre V6 engine, shared with the Renault 25, its top speed pushed 150mph. Pricing in the UK was ambitious and the GTA went head-to-head with the Porsche 911 and Lotus Esprit. These more established cars continued to overshadow the French upstart, outselling it comfortably. Few original RHD cars remain in the UK (less than 40) but in recent years a number of left-hookers have been imported.
