New Twitter account confirms that new Alpine concept car is to be revealed on 16 February
Alpine has been continuing to build the suspense around the launch of its new coupe sports car, with confirmation of ‘an event’ on 16 February. It’s thought to be the official unveiling of the company’s first new model since the mid-1990s A610.
We have been waiting to hear further details of the new car since the Alpine Celebration concept at Goodwood and Le Mans. Current rumours suggest that the new car will be powered by a mid-mounted 1.8-litre version of the turbocharged four-cylinder currently fitted to the Clio RS, along with the same seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Thought to be a direct rival to the Alfa Romeo 4C and entry-level Porsche Caymans, Renault has hinted in the past that the new car will revert to the tried and tested Alpine formula of low weight and modest power outputs.
The scale of Alpine’s future plans haven’t yet been made clear, but there is already talk of a hotter RenaultSport version, as well as a possible SUV model in the future.
Not much has officially been revealed so far. The company released an image of a mountain, along with the words 'Rendez-vous at the summit in 3 weeks. Will you be there? #AlpineisBack'. Check back on the 16 February for more details.
